Air quality, ground water availability and tree cover in the top six metros have worsened over the last five years, according to the findings of ‘Environment survey 2013’ by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). The survey was carried out in six metro cities of India namely Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai and aimed to gauge people’s perception, behavior, awareness and opinions pertaining to various environmental issues.
Only a very small percentage (6 to 16%) of respondents in these cities perceived that things are getting better. The number of trees, birds and animals has also declined, the survey found.
